  1. I have worked with wolves for ten years (See my avatar, he's a 240LB Canadian Tundra wolf) and it is because of wild animals that I DO have two dogs. I wouldn't want to be out in the wilderness without my dogs, or a dog, a dog has keener senses and sees things minutes and seconds before I will see them.

For me, I live alone, and the sweet companionship my dogs provide is non- negotiable. I love them so much.

  2. Cats on the road are about as difficult as having fuzzy dice on your mirror. They just lay in the windshield soaking up the sun all day. Except maybe they poop in a box once in a while.

Also, a cat does know how to fend for themselves if they happen to get lost. Not many seem to know this but they are technically considered wild animals still because of that. They just use humans for an easy life when they can. But have no problem going out and catching mice, finding water, shelter. They even react to hawks instinctively by flattening themselves to the ground when they see their shadows. They even backflip to avoid snake bites.
Unless your cat is fat. Then he's just a big twinky out there.

  3. Coyotes tend to be less worrisome for a larger dog. I had a dog that was a wired hair Terrier German shepherd mix she was about 45 pounds and ran straight into a coyote den with pups the mother coyote was out of there so fast. The remaining part of the hike the coyote tried to barked at us to lure us further away from her pups. If you're dog is timid then they might get attacked but if you're dog is fearless and on the larger size like border collie on up they are bread to chase off preditors. If you want to hike with a dog off leash then you better have a bigger one not a bite size morsel. I would be worried if I saw a pack like Bob did and wouldn't push my luck.

  4. I've been asking this question forever..I wanna RV fulltime.. But were and how would the pets stay.. Can they stay in the RV is there AC do they need to go somewhere.. That's what's stopping me. My Animals always have to be Safe first. If I have to go somewhere where will they stay is safe in the RV

  5. This isn't an attack on owners, its a simple CAUTION TO CONSIDER. Not one person EVER considers the viruses and bacteria from any animal, ESPECIALLY in "confined spaces". Just please be CAUTIOUS and use common SANITARY sense, because these things can be serious. We can get things like diarrhea, worms, intestinal bugs that do damage and get "flu like symptoms" than can be from animals and NOT the flu. I worked at an spca and the entire staff got sick from taking this very thing for granted. Getting too personal and close with animals. The shelter was shut down until things were cleaned up, people got better and training for handling animals was given. So many people in small spaces with them worries me. I miss animals….because of that episode at the spca…i cant be around any because i have a big reaction. So, please just be clean and careful with them. 😉

  6. Great video. I'm planning on going nomadic when my dog passes away. People say go now she'll enjoy it. No, neither of us would enjoy it. She's an Alaskan Malamute so talk about shedding. She can't be off leash she's a runner. She's a rescue and she is so happy to have a doggie door and a fenced yard. So I'm taking my time to plan my life after the dog. She's currently about 7 years old and so I figure probably about 5 more years. Puts me around 60 so perfect in my thoughts.

  7. I enjoyed your fact based analysis but how super sad you won’t get another dog. It’s really sad that we all pass away sooner or later. Definitely goes along with your belief we should all live our days to the fullest. I’m pretty worried I would miss my bathroom too much. I love watching the nomads and fantasizing about living free while I keep going to my nightmare job every day – all day. I wish the nwo would implement the minimum monthly income scheme. I would take my rfid implant in exchange.

  8. I have been full timing with a wonderful feral cat turned constant companion for 18 years. Great traveling "pawtner" … she hikes, rock climbs, visited sea lions caves, and desert exploration while wearing a harness. Yes , I watch over her but she has alerted me of a bear threat and even stalked elk ….. boy , did I get lucky ! For some reason she brings me only non-poisionous snakes and will hand me a wayward baby bird on occasion. What a Pal !
    Thanks Bob !

  9. I have my lab/dane on the road or just living with me full time in a teeny tiny van. It is a problem when I want to do something where dogs arent allowed to be. Especially hiking and backpacking, but, that would be a problem even if I owned a stationary place. I shop when its cool and I wouldnt think of doing my life without my dog. I wont replace her when she goes maybe, but for now I can deal with the extra work and restrictions.

  10. Sharing my life with 3-4 dogs for the last 11 years as I traveled and off and on my whole life, this is a very important video for THEIR safety and quality of life. You are just being very realistic and responsible for the benefit of our animal friends. I would hope this provokes careful thought of what a serious and long term commitment it is and promote responsible pet ownership. I wouldn't trade my time and quality of life with them for anything–I am a better human and I'm alive because of them, but it is not for everyone so I appreciate your video.

  11. So much good information in this video. Thank you Bob. I didn’t hear you talk about how you handle checking for ticks. Also, what about a dog’s feet dealing with outdoor terrain? I am more of a cat person and plan on traveling with my indoor kitty ?

  12. I sleep in a sand pile! I have a small dog and she is usually covered with sand, when she shakes the sand goes everywhere, but mostly ends up in my bed. I wouldn't want to go anywhere without her, and she is never off lease.

  13. Hi Hi Bob! huge question, my mother had a stroke last year she ended up living with me for about 4 month, she is now in Florida, with my sister, my husband and I are planning to travel to Florida New Smyrna Beach, from Carson City NV, I know very well that we will encounter problems with dogs, I have 4, my oldest is going to be 18, this year I have a 6 year old and 2, 4 year olds, How bad will it be, thats my question, will we be able to find over night camps, will it be bad????????

  14. I understand why you’d not opt to get a dog at 72. I will probably opt for a senior shelter dog when I am in 70s – even though it is so painful when they die, I think life would be very empty for me without a dog. Love your videos ??

  15. There is a classification of a pet that makes by federal law it cannot be treated as you describe. It is a support animal. The cost is $150 per year and must be reviewed and approved. My sister's cat and dog are part of the excluded class. In fact, apartments building that forbid support pets can be levied a fine for not allowing a support animal at no additional fee and be sued. Look into it. Look up Emotional Support Animal – Google it.
