I adopted a German Shepherd and he is the sweetest boy, my best friend I never heard his back story but he was always very calm, from the day I adopted him we bonded straight away and one day I was taking off my belt and the sound of the belt buckle frightened him so much he jumped up and snarled his teeth at me and backed up into the corner of the room I can tell his back story was disgusting and I don’t want to find out what kind of unbearable person used a belt on MY Louis ❤️
We have had rescues for 20 years, and fostered cats as well. This past July we adopted what may be our last buddy (we are getting older). We went to see one dog and ended up with another, it has been great

Stop breeding just because you like a litter of cats or because you like puppies… There are so many cats and dogs who need a home!!
If adoption were the only way to get a dog and all puppy Mills were outlawed and all pets were neutered and chipped the shelters wouldn't be so full that they are forced to euthanise so many. Shelters and heavily regulated breeders who must comply with high standards of care should be the only outlets for dogs.
such a difference that love, patience, and caring make is beyond anything we experience……..learning to gain the dog's trust, respect, love is a reward in itself. It's heartbreaking and joyful at the same time to watch this beautiful transformation.
Everything you said so true It was meant to be that you adopted Timber as he needed so much love. What a difference. My four rescues dogs and Iam fostering are Cheyenne SundAnce Dylan Perry. My fosters which I renamed are Chelsea and Woodstock are seniors who were almost going to be euthanized in NYC are partially blind and deaf. So everyday and night no matter what time take them out if they have to go. Alot of patience and LOVE. How they change so much from probably always being in cages learning to walk so much better with plenty of exercise in yard. You did that for timber brought him out of his shell always adopt and please try to adopt older or seniors they get overlooked. God bless you

I thank you from the heart for standing by Timber, though it took a long while for Timber to trust again. I have heard many where the person says the dog wont warm up to them, only to give the dog up, or cuz he growled cuz they were pushy, trying to grab the dogs face, etc. For a dog to be that traumatized, it must have been truly horrific……theres alot of sexual abuse going on too. Have heard many of friends, family, etc doing the unthinkable…….I would trust very few with my kids or animals. Happy for him to have trusted again, make sure he has a god parent, god forbid something ever happened to you. Youd want to KNOW that the people/ person who took Timber would be just as loyal as you.
This story reminded me so much of my own when I adopted Allie. Almost identically. And it did take me over a year as well for her to really bond and start trusting. She also wasn't the dog I went to go see… and she was one of the longest tenured dogs the shelter had at the time. These dogs are constantly overlooked, but just need the right owner. It is so rewarding.
yep I have a rescue that after 7 years still will not allow strangers to pet him. He like Timber shakes with fear when he's approached and I'm.not right by his side. He's cute so everyone wants to pet, kiss or hold him. I have no clue about what happened in his short life before I got him but if I ever get my hands on his abusers I'll be in trouble

Once i'm 18 i will adopt a abused dog when shes good ill adopt another. This makes me cry for hours.
